| ~ PROVERBS ~ The Wisdom Literature of the old testament. Written by Solomon, son of King David. { I don't imagine King David's Palace looked like the one above, although this is a beautiful castle on the seaside. I am also sure that the landscape was much different also.........} |
| Solomon wrote most of this book, with Agur and Lemuel contributing some of the later sections. It's purpose was to teach people how to attain wisdom and discipline and a prudent life, and how to do what is right and just and fair. Proverbs 1: 1, 2 The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel; to know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding. Solomon wrote and compiled most of these proverbs early in his reign. According to the Bible, Solomon, was the wisest man who ever lived. He left behind a legacy of written wisdom in three volumes, Proverbs, Ecclesiates, and Song of Songs. In these books under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, he gives practical insights and guidelines for life. ( Ecclesiates and Song of Songs will be later in this series on the books of the Bible).** Proverbs 1:1 ~ 9:18 Solomon instructed the young people of his day like a father giving advice to his child. While many of these proverbs are directed toward young people, the principles supporting them are helpful to all believers, male and female, young and old. Anyone beginning his or her journey to discover more of wisdom will benefit greatly from these wise sayings. Proverbs 10:1 ~ 24:34 Solomon wanted to impart wisdom to all people, regardless of their age, sex, or position in society. These short, wise sayings give us practical wisdom for daily living. We should study them diligently and integrate them into our life. Proverbs 25:1 ~ 31: 31 In addition to the proverbs that Solomon collected, the men of Hezekiah collected many proverbs that Solomom and others wrote. While most of these are general in nature, many are directed specifically to the king and those who dealt with the king. These are particularly useful for those who are leaders or aspire to be leaders. The word "proverb" comes from a Hebrew word meaning "to rule or to govern." In other words, Proverbs are sayings designed to rule or govern our conduct, and may be called "Heaven's rules for men on earth." KEY VERSE: 1:7 ~ THE FEAR OF THE LORD IS THE BEGINNINGS OF KNOWLEDGE; BUT FOOLS DESPISE WISDOM AND INSTRUCTION. WORDS FROM THE WISE Alphabet letters, vowels and consonants Formed into words, sometimes for innocents. Whether spoken, signed, whispered or written Valuable lessons it strives to mention. The desire to learn, a natural trait That is woven into the human state. But knowledge is not always wise If you don't have all the facts on your side. There are many scholars that will teach Obscure lessons trying to reach. If wisdom, however, is not in the equation The knowledge learned can be evasive. Solomon is the wisest man that ever lived He has left to us a precious gift. A legacy, simple, yet beyond compare To any riches that might be out there. There is knowledge of the world around And also life knowledge that must be found. You can put them on a weighing scale In hopes that wisdom of life will prevail. Life's lessons can be difficult at best So journey into Proverbs to figure out the test. A place to go, for wisdom to recall Always relying on God's word, to prevent a fall.
