| THE TEACHER'S HOMECOMING An aging teacher spent her life devoted to the schools, and love for children was foremost of all her teaching tools. One day this teacher was approached by angels sent from God, “It’s time that you come home with us where all the saints have trod.” “Oh please, I beg of you delay the time for me to go. The children have much more to learn; I still can help them grow.” “There is so much we need to teach. Our work is never through. Beyond the lore of academe, we must teach values, too.” And so the angels managed to obtain a brief delay, for God had added to the time on earth that she might stay. To teach of moral values and a sense of faith and hope is not decreed to be within the teacher’s legal scope. The seeds of love and faith in God, concern for all mankind, belief that truth is absolute, In schools we seldom find. But faith-filled teachers such as she know well the childrens’ needs, and so they try to fill the void and sow in school such seeds. But as the days turned into years, this aged teacher tired. There was no way to count the lives that her love had inspired. So when the angels reappeared, she knew she could not stay. She said, “I’m ready to go home. Let us be on our way.” The angel smiled and said to her, “God’s presence now is near, and standing in His Presence means you HAVE come home, my dear.” Shelby Forrest © March 2006 Luke 6: 38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again. |
