| It had been quite a while since I came To the House of God to kneel in prayer As I entered the gargantuan doors And looked up to the vision of Heaven there. What granduer to behold when I stepped inside, The wonders of God's treasures depicted by eye. Oh what a quiet stillness exuded from every place. As I slowly walked toward the altar in a steady pace. I looked all around trying to see If anyone else was there with me. All the pews were empty and newly shined, So pristine I wouldn't touch, to leave prints behind. My heart was racing and pounding in my chest Why was I so afraid when dared to take the test. My mind had been in a turmoil for oh so long I knew I needed to give thanks and sing a song. As I knelt there at the altar, I had perfect view Of the spectacular stained glass window with shadows peeking through. It was late afternoon and the sun was beginning to set And the fading streaks of sunshine came through the window from the west. Give thanks, that is what I came to do Then I realized our Heavenly Father expects that of you. Why had I been so slack and unconcerned? For me that was a profound lesson to learn. There is such a long list of thank yous, Where do I start and not get confused. Then I discovered, it didn't matter if I knew them by heart. Because it was easier to thank Him for everything from the start. Thank you for my life and the air I breathe For the parents who raised me to always believe. That you are the Son of man, and died for my salvation, Thank you for eternal life and for your preparations.. I give thanks for food and clothes, For home and for right living I chose. I give you thanks for the sun and moon And for the mansion there I will have soon. I give thanks for everything that you blessed, For forgiveness of sin, and eternal rest. Today my Lord of Love and goodness I thank you for allowing me to come To this beautiful house of worship to meet here as one. Written By Shirley Barr October 26, 2004 All Rights Reserved |
