GRANDMA'S HANDS
GRANDMOTHER
NORA
15 YEARS OLD
1896 ~ 1999
SONG: 'WHAT A DAY THAT WILL BE'
SEQUENCED AND PERMISSION BY
MUSICA'S GOSPEL MIDIS
The hands that cared for all they could
With strength and love they always would.
Every day mundane chores, it didn't matter.
From making clothes to mending tatters.

Those hands washed clothes and washed dishes
Cooked all the meals and granted wishes.
They stayed busy from dawn til after dark
As she tended to needs and loved with all her heart.

She was very beautiful, anyone could see
That's why Papa swept her off her feet.
They were married young and started a family,
Then came my mother, Irma Lee.

Mother had four sisters that brought Grandma joy,
The last to be born turned out to be a boy.
They all grew up and had families of their own
And would take all us grandkids to Grandma's home.

Grandma's hands had started to age by then
You could see the years of work in her skin.
She loved all the family and tried so hard to tell
Every single on of us about Heaven and hell!

She went to a Baptist church downtown on Bonner Street,
Every Sunday she would shake hands with all that she'd meet.
Those hands have held so many precious memories
That only she'll be able to tell when we reach eternity.

She loved to play piano and taught herself well
I'd say, "Grandma play for me" and she'd say, "Sit a spell."
She never learned to read the notes, but she could hear
And every tune she played, God gave her by ear.

One day she got a little organ and loved to play that too,
Many times when I would visit, she'd ask me to play a tune.
Always jolly, loving and kind, can't recall a time
When she was cross or out of sorts, this Grandma of mine.

I can see those hands today, so beautiful to me
The love they shared with all who came to see,
That beautiful lady of God who always loved us so
Is up in Heaven today, with pretty hands, no wrinkles to show.
