| ~ Leviticus~ After Israel's dramatic exit from Egypt, the nation was camped at the foot of Mount Sinai for two years to listen to God. It was a time of resting, teaching, building, and meeting with Him face to face. Redemption in Exodus is the foundation for cleansing, worship and service in Leviticus. The word "HOLINESS" is mentioned more times than in any other book of the Bible. One hundred fifty two times to be exact. The key people are Moses, Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. The key verse in this book is 19:2 "you must be holy because I, the Lord your God, am holy." The events that took place was during 1445 ~1444 B. C. The main purpose for Leviticus is to be a handbook for the priest and Levites outlining their duties in worship, and a guidebook of holy living for the Hebrews. |

| Sacrifices in which there were five kinds Were instilled in the Hebrews minds. How to show praise and thankfulness Devotion and atonement on being sinless. The covering or removal of guilt and sin, The exercise of animal offerings were in. To demonstrate that the person was to give, His or her life to God, the animal would not live. God also set up seven festivals to celebrate, Designated as religious and national days. To teach them much about worshiping Him, In both celebration and quiet honor within. The health of the people was of great concern, There were civil rules for handling food that was learned. Disease and sex were taught as physical principles, Israel was to be different from the other people. Holiness was to be separated and devoted, God removed them from Egypt and was noted. That He would also remove Egypt from them, There ways of living and thinking now came from Him. The Levites and priests instructed the people, In the correct way to worship and not be evil. They regulated the moral and civil standards, And taught ceremonial laws to their advantage. The Levites were servants who showed, To follow God, they had to trod a different road. They provided the historical backdrop for Christ, Who is our High Priest and would change our lives. So we learn that this book was setting up the rules That were to be abided by or you were seen as fools. The Hebrew children tried their best to adapt, To become what God had foreseen for them in the gap. The laws at this time had become clear, And they knew that a better life would appear. If they took God at His word and instruction, They would be stronger and less destructive. Written By Shirley Barr January 8, 2005 All Rights Reserved |
