GREATER THAN THE UNIVERSE A father and his little boy Were strolling hand in hand Along a now deserted beach Forming footprints in the sand The boy then of his father asked How big's the universe, Dad? The father paused with wrinkled brow "What can I tell the lad?" "If sand from all the deserts and The beaches by the sea Were formed into one massive cloud No end of it would be." "Then take one single grain from this And place it in your hand That represents the planet earth On which we both now stand "This is, my son, a mystery We mortals can't explain Beyond the range of finite minds Understanding's God's domain. "But there's one thing that I do know To tell you this I can Much greater than the universe Is the love God has for Man. "Don't ask me this to prove to you, For that I cannot do, It's just by faith, and faith alone, For me that makes this true. Written 9/28/98 All Rights Reserved
THE LEGACY OF EDWARD VALENTINE For ninety years a quiet man Among loved ones resided. A kind and gentle man of faith Who by God's laws abided. An Aura of strength about him flowed A strength forged by God's love The inner power of an eagle hid By demeanor of a dove. When God breathed life into his soul His fate became defined For love of God now filled the heart Of Edward Valentine. Assignment, 'twas clear, had been confirmed As an emissary of God, So he left a mark of love and care On every path he trod God has unlocked his earthly shell Permitting his soul to roam And spread his love through heaven's scenes Where now he makes his home. His departure has left an empty gap A gap, though, to be filled By those with spiritual growth attained In the fields that he has tilled. Written 10/28/99 All Rights Reserved
A MAN FOR ALL ETERNITY Good intentions have prompted the media To make Jesus Man fo the Year For century, year, or millenium, The intended honor is dear. To Christians, however, there's a hollow ring, Since Jesus is more than mere man. He exists in a realm above mortals For he sits at God's right hand. So if Jesus is part, as Christians Believe, Of the Heavenly Trinity, We should honor Him not in finite time, But for all eternity. God visited earth in a human guise As part of His master plan He would have Jesus forever live Deep in the hearts of man. Written 3/14/99 All Rights Reserved
MOTHER, WHERE CAN I FIND GOD? Mother, tell me, where do we start If for God we want to search? Does He live in just one building? Is he only found in church? The mother smiled at her little girl; Her brow was wrinkled in thought. "How best can I answer her question? Just How can this lesson be taught?" "God is a spirit that can be everywhere At once and in more than one place. You can always be aware of his nearness Though you never can gaze on His face." "He can be found on a mountain peak Or far out over the seas You can often hear Him whispering In the rustle of a breeze. "He is not confined to any church But always He'll be there When people gather to worship Him Be it a church or anywhere. "So my advice if you want to find God Take this step ere you start Reach out for others to give of your love And God can be found in your heart." Written Dec. 22, 1997 All Rights Reserved
| THIS TOO WILL ALSO PASS Beams from the sun float warmly down, and cheerful birds are singing While the billowy floating clouds impelled by gentle breeze Pass overhead through flocks of geese in tight formation winging Their annual journey southward, high above the towering trees. Such brief and fleeting moments give pause in time for me To naively sense that all is well, all things are as they seem Then clouds of dust eclipsed the sun as chariots of the Darkness Raced oer the plains of heaven, shredding the idyllic dream Black shrouds of bitter cold and dark hovered oer, engulfing me Instilling in my heart and soul, such burning fear and pain That I wondered if the nothingness would eer give way to light To lead me from the darkness to the tranquil scene again The rumbling chariots rolled on and with them went the darkness A temporary lapsing of my faith, abandoning my soul Enabled apostles of the dark to lull me from the knowledge That forces of evil are on the run; God still is in control. Wheneer I'm faced with fearsome specters of new impending gloom And when I'm shackled by depression, I'm praying to be freed Again I know I'll see the light, when gloom from me departs This too will pass, oh yes my friend, this too will pass indeed.
