THE GREAT HARVEST
When I was a child, I always remembered planting day,
Making furrows in the ground, and make them all the same way.
To me it was always fun for Pop to put some seeds in my hand,
And let me drop them along the rows he had turned in the land.

Don't waste them, he would say, just enough to root and grow.
So I would carefully drop them spaced along the row.
Until my hand was empty and he'd fill it once more.
And along each row I followed him,
until we finished the chore.

I watched as he would carefully cover each
seed with soil.
He did it so methodically as though it
was never a toil.
Before he would start another row, he
would put a little tag the name to show.
So he would know each little sprout
as they begun to poke their heads out.

One day as we were busy planting another row,
Pop's began to tell me the Bible story of the  ones who sowed.
A long time ago in Jesus day, he told about a farmer who went to plant one day.
Carelessly he scattered his seed across the field,  and the birds began to eat up what
would have been his yield.

The seeds that fell on shallow soil were laying under rocks.
They sprouted up quickly, but they died when it became too hot.
Their roots were too shallow to draw nourishment from the land,
He had planted without care and not much of a plan.

There were other seeds that landed among the thorns,
They shot up and choked out the tender plants as soon as they were born.
But there were some seeds they fell on fertile soil,
They just flourished and produced hundreds of plants without toil.

That was an interesting story Pops, but
does it end there?
Why did the farmer plant his seeds without
much care?
Well, Jesus was teaching the folk a lesson,
that would carry them through life.
To help them with decisions and even trials and strife.

Here is what he was telling them about the farmer growing seeds,
The seeds that the birds ate had fallen where it was too hard you see,
And the same would be with people, they wouldn't understand,
And then the evil one, satan, could snatch them from salvation's plan.

Then the rocky soil means those who have
heard the truth and are full of joy.
But like the young plants their roots were
to shallow and they needed more.
At first they would do just fine, until they begin to wilt,
And then they were persecuted because
they try to be in God's will.

The seeds that fell on the thorny ground, represent thoses that accept God's plan,\
But they get caught up in worldly things,
and soon  among the fruitless they land.
The cares of life and wealth and fame,
become their cause to shame.

Now we get to the good part, where people who are wise, use their heart.
They plant their seeds in soil that is rich and good.
When the harvest comes, it is great and flourishes like it should.
They have  accepted God's message as
the truth,
And a huge harvest they reap as the proof.

So remember child as you grow up and face life,
In everything you do, make sure you do it
right.
Always stay in the Master Gardners will,
And your harvest will be a mighty yield.
