| THORNS TOO SMALL ~ ~ ~ The beauty of a rose is so wonderful to see. The red one is my favorite And it's fragrance so sweet. The velvet texture of it's many petals, The climbing vine, the bush, They are displayed at many levels. ~ ~ ~ They always exemplify beauty and grace, And given as a symbol of love to many with a happy face. Their presence will never grow old, Many are loved and many are sold. ~ ~ ~ The only drawback that I have found, Are the thorns all along the stems are bound. Reminds me of an unforgettable day. When there were thorns used in another way. ~ ~ ~ We are told in God's word, of another kind of thorn. The crown that was platted by soldiers, upon Jesus head was worn. These were no ordinary thorns, the strongest they could find. To place upon the head of this Savior of mine. ~ ~ ~ Sharp as the blade of a sword and pressed into his head. They mocked him and slashed Him, until He was dead. No beauty in this plant was found. No velvety petals to spread around. ~ ~ ~ So to Calvary's tree a crown of thorns were worn, To cause our Lord to suffer even more. Although it was bittersweet, His dying that way, His sacrifice offers sinners a new life and brighter days. ~ ~ ~ The beauty of the red rose, cannot be compared. But its thorns were not strong or large enough to bare. The pain that Jesus suffered so long ago. So it will remain and always be, the best in the show. ~ ~ ~ Written by Shirley Barr October 12, 2004 All Rights Reserved |
| Matthew 27: 28 ~29 And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe, And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon His head, and a reed in His right hand; and they bowed the knee before Him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews! |
