| The Bible tells us that Jesus and John the Baptist were cousins, and that John was three months, his senior. In the above scripture, Simeon is telling Mary about the great future of her son, at the time Jesus was 12 years of age. It would be approximately 20 more years before his ministry really gets under way. In the meantime, God was preparing John to clear the way for the Messiah that would soon declare the truth to mankind. |
| THE VOICE IN THE WILDERNESS |
| John the Baptist went out to spread the word, Because the Messiah was coming, he heard He knew his job was to open up the way, So people would know of Him when He came one day. Folk, didn't know what to think about John Cause he lived in the wilderness and dressed odd, He dressed in animal skins, and didn't smell good, Was dirty all the time and plants and insects was his food. John's aim was not to be so unique for his sake He was being obedient to the mission he would take Announcing the coming of the Savior as he was told, By Gabriel in the wilderness, his duties did unfold. He was born to Elisabeth and Zacharias in their old age, For children to carry on their heritage, they had prayed. God gave them a son and told them his name, He shall be called John, " a voice" in the desert to proclaim. Isaiah said, he would be the voice of one calling out, To prepare the way for Our Lord, that's what he's about This wild looking man, had no power or position But he came before the One who would make a big decision. It was said there was none greater than John the Baptist, Yet he who is least in the kingdom of Heaven is greater than he, He went about the land to fulfill God's commands, And preached about a Messiah who was gonna change the land. They called him John the Baptist, cause when people would come. He would dip them in the river and Baptize them everyone, And tell them to go and sin no more, and they would go To tell others about this man of God and the seeds he sowed. Jesus came to preach just as it was promised them The one and Only Messiah was here on the scene. He praised John the Baptist, for the obedience he had done. And asked him, "Please baptize me," He was meant to be the one. There's so much more about this obedient servants live, A story of marvel, miracles heartaches and strife. One that ends in tragedy, but again it ends so right He became a Martyr, for obeying God's will in his life. John also means, "The Lord is Gracious", what a beautiful name. The one for whom he went before and opened up the way, Would also be a martyr, a supreme sacrifice for sin. What a profound love it took from these two men.
